“Good morning Arizona! Good Morning 114-degree weather (and we thought Florida was hot)! We arrived at the booth this morning where we were greeted by an electrical shock from the trusses to insure that we were all awake and ready to go. I believe the dry air assisted with the increase of static electricity; this was evident by looking at most of the 1st Place Crews hair! Stop in and see us and get your own shocking experience.” 1st Place Vice President, Troy Olson, wrote in on day one to tell us about his experience in Phoenix, Arizona at the Volleyball Festival!
This year marks the first year that 1st Place Volleyball had the privilege of being the lead sponsor of such a great event that celebrated their 30 year mark! Volleyball Festival, which is open to all clubs, high schools and international team, had just under 500 teams competing this year and boy was the competition fierce! If you would like to find out more on the teams participating (http://www.volleyball-festival.com/Default.aspx?RD=5966&RN=Competition) or results (http://www.volleyball-festival.com/Default.aspx?RD=5313&RN=Results), then you can visit the Volleyball Festival Website (http://www.volleyball-festival.com)!
Besides the competition, Festival really stepped it up with other ways to get attendees involved, like Opening Ceremonies at US Airways Center, home of the Phoenix Suns and Mercury. Everyone came out to celebrate the event and the totally awesome 80’s (which was this year’s Festival Theme.) They could also pick up a Festival Spirit Daily Newspaper to read highlights, stories, get local coupons and see what’s in the area to do. Festival even had a “Go Purple Day” to help the Desert Southwest Chapter of the Alzheimers Association fight against Alzheimer’s.
Non-attendees had it pretty sweet too! If they were stuck at home taking care of the dogs and couldn’t make it to Arizona, you could log on the AZGamecast.com and watch all the action live or On Demand. They could even download the New Festival App to see schedules, results, photos and more. Thanks Festival for making sure everyone could be a part of this spectacular event. We can’t wait until next year!
